Accused drug dealer found competent to act

HILLSDALE – The Saline Forensic Psychiatry Center has determined that a Jerome man charged with intent to sell methamphetamine can stand trial.

Keith Stickley, an attorney representing 54-year-old William Keith Joslin, requested a competency review before preliminary hearings shortly after Joslin's arrest this summer.

Joslin will now proceed to a probable cause conference on November 27 at 10 a.m.

He was arrested May 14 by the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office on a felony warrant charging him with delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine, two counts of receiving and concealing stolen firearms, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated firearm incident on March 6th.

Stickley will meet with the Hillsdale County Prosecutor's Office on Nov. 27 to discuss discovery of evidence and possible solutions to the case. If a plea agreement cannot be reached, Joslin will be summoned to a preliminary hearing at which the prosecution must establish probable cause that a crime was committed and probable cause that Joslin is responsible for the crimes he is charged with is.

If both requirements are met, his case will be sent to the 1st Judicial District Court for further hearings, including formal arraignment.

Joslin has posted an $18,750 bond for his temporary release and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted as charged.
