Police say five people were arrested on drug trafficking charges after 4,000 pills were seized in LaGrange

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Five Troup County residents have been arrested on drug trafficking charges, according to LaGrange Police.

According to police, several teams of tactical units executed seven search warrants on residents on October 22.

According to police, more than 15 pounds of marijuana, over 4,000 fentanyl pills, 14 grams of crack cocaine, six firearms and more were found during this operation.

Rashad Pickett, Johnnie Sanders, Jessica Gates, Gary Bernard Newman and James Edward Thompson III were arrested on multiple charges including trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The LaGrange Police Department's Special Investigations Unit began receiving information about possible drug dealers in Troup County in July, police said.

According to LaGrange police, the four-month investigation included intelligence gathering, undercover investigations and joint efforts by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the Troup County Sheriff's Office and the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
