Man accused of murdering wife will be tried in another county

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — An Indiana man accused of killing his wife in Dearborn County will now face trial in Hamilton County.

The murder occurred in November 2023.

Investigators believe Mohammed Mondal shot his wife Stacy Mondal in front of their two children – a 14-month-old and a two-month-old.

Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens previously said the family was on its way to JC Penny on Colerain Avenue to have photos taken when Mohammed shot Stacy multiple times in a vehicle he was driving on U.S. 50 .

After the shooting, investigators said Mohammed approached a neighbor, a Dearborn County sheriff's sergeant, and told him he had accidentally shot his wife.

According to prosecutors, Mohammed drove his wife to a nearby hospital in Lawrenceburg.

It was initially assumed that she died there, but a defense expert determined that Stacy likely died in the vehicle. The state medical examiner agreed it was likely she died in Hamilton County.

A Hamilton County grand jury indicted Mohammed on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated assault.

According to investigators, he was turned over to Ohio authorities on Thursday.

Mohammed claims the shooting was in self-defense. He and his wife argued and Stacy reached for the gun first.
