Isaiah Jackson will miss the season opener

DETROIT – Isaiah Jackson will miss Wednesday's season opener against the Pistons because of a right groin strain, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said in his pregame news conference.

Jackson was listed as questionable until Wednesday. He also missed the Pacers' final preseason game against the Hornets on Thursday.

Jackson averaged 6.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game off the bench last season and led the Pacers in field goal percentage at .665. He was one of the Pacers' most productive players, averaging 17.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per 36 minutes. He is expected to be the Pacers' second-team center this season after battling the past two years with Jalen Smith, who declined his player option in the offseason and signed with the Bulls.

If Jackson is out, the Pacers could use James Wiseman as second-team center or move Jarace Walker from second-team small forward to power forward and place Ben Sheppard in the second unit.
