Irvington neighborhood hosts Porchella Halloween music festival

Take a walk along North Dutcher Street in Irvington and you'll feel like you've stumbled into a virtual Halloween town.

Every home on this block just off Main Street is decorated from top to bottom. People do their best here for good reason. “Porchella” is in the neighborhood.

A community Halloween music festival now in its 12th year. Neighbors Douglas McClure and John Malone had an idea. Dress up as the rock band The Ramone's and play a few songs on the porch while trick-or-treaters come by. And “Porchella” was born.

There are now up to 10 local bands playing on porches, some driveways and even in garages throughout the village. As the news spread, the crowd grew. There are more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters on North Dutcher Street and the block is packed to capacity as soon as the bands step onto the porch.

The event starts at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome!
