Live Thread: Texans at Jets on “Thursday Night Football”

The NFL has decided to forego the treats and pull a trick on NFL fans this Halloween as it once again schedules the New York Jets in a primetime viewing window. They welcome the Houston Texans to New Jersey in Week 9 for a spooky special edition of “Thursday Night Football.” These two teams have only met 10 times in their history, with the Jets holding a 7-3 lead and winning the last two meetings.

The Texans (6-2) are atop the AFC South after defeating the Colts last week, giving them a two-and-a-half game lead in the division. The unfortunate side effect of this game is that the Texans lost star receiver Stefon Diggs this season to a non-contact knee injury. With Nico Collins on injured reserve for at least another week, the Texans will turn to WR Tank Dell, RB Joe Mixon and TE Dalton Schultz, but are also hoping for contributions from WRs Xavier Hutchinson, John Metchie III and Robert Woods.

The Jets (2-6) will rely on their strong secondary to have a talent advantage while also requiring their defensive line to take control of Houston's suspect offensive line. On offense, Aaron Rodgers finally didn't throw an interception last week, but he's still working on finding chemistry between him and Davante Adams. The Texans secondary plays well against both wide receivers and tight ends, but it is their defensive line that should worry Jets fans, as they are ranked No. 1 in the NFL in pressure rate (43.8%) and in Ranked No. 1 in the NFL in sacks (27). .

Betting line and tip for the game

The folks at FanDuel Sportsbook are favoring New York in this game, with the betting line set at Jets -1.5 points.

We've seen the Jets find ways to lose in primetime time and time again this season, and I don't think anything will change this week even though the Texans lost Diggs. I'm taking Houston on the points and on the money line.

Prediction: Houston 24-17
