The “Monster Hunter Wilds could not connect to the server” error is easy to fix.

The Monster Hunter Wilds Beta is finally here – PC gamers have been patiently waiting for their turn to try out the new Capcom RPG following a PS5-only test earlier this week. Now you can finally download the MHW beta on Steam. There's just one problem: at the time of writing, if you try to play it, you'll be met with a “Couldn't connect to server” message. Fortunately, there is a simple solution.

The simple reason why you are seeing the “Monster Hunter Wilds could not connect to server” message (Error Code R1187-0-0:3) is because the beta is not live yet. The beta start time for Monster Hunter Wilds is Thursday, October 31st at 8:00 p.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. ET or Friday, November 1st at 3:00 a.m. GMT / 4:00 a.m. CET. You'll just have to wait a little longer to play the new RPG – although that hasn't stopped more than 25,000 players from giving it a try on Steam so far.

I've spent some time with the PlayStation 5 version (I promise I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound here) and it's excellent. While the frame rate certainly leaves a little to be desired, it was an absolute pleasure to have an extended period of time to tackle the four beta monsters – particularly the mighty Rey Dau.

Multiplayer is also working smoothly so far, although I'm excited to test out both the PC version and the crossplay functionality of Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds once the rest of the platforms have access. As mentioned, you won't have to wait long – just use this as a welcome opportunity for everyone to pre-download the beta.
