Wife dies, husband seriously injured in Jackson County accident

NAPOLEON TWP., Mich. (WILX) – A woman is dead and her husband is in serious condition after a crash in Jackson County.

On Wednesday, October 30, Napoleon Township Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Brooklyn Road and Napoleon Road.

There, first responders discovered that a Kia SUV had struck a tractor-trailer that was traveling west on Brooklyn Road. Officials believe the Kia attempted to turn left from southbound Napoleon to eastbound Brooklyn and drove directly into the tractor-trailer.

The semi-truck tried in vain to avoid the Kia.

The Kia was driven by 79-year-old Gary Burnette of Napoleon. His wife, 80-year-old Ruth Ann, was a passenger.

Both were seriously injured and taken to Henry Ford Hospital. Ruth later died from her injuries.

Gary's condition is serious but stable.

The tractor-trailer driver, a 40-year-old man from Ironwood, was also taken to the hospital but was later released.
