Scarlett Johansson gathers the Avengers to fight Donald Trump

“How do I feel? Oh God, I don't know,” Scarlett Johansson says on a recent call Vanity Fair. “That's a difficult question.” Less than a week away Kamala Harris competes against Donald Trump On Election Day, the stars really are just like us – anxiously awaiting the results of the 2024 presidential race.

“I’m cautiously optimistic, I guess, whatever that means,” she adds with a laugh. “I hope people will remember to vote, not be complacent and get involved. I think if people vote, we’ll be in good shape.”

According to Johansson, getting voters to vote is often the biggest battle, a Herculean feat worthy of the screen's best superheroes. That's why the actor formerly known as Black Widow turned to the text of the Avengers group in recent weeks. “We don’t just screw with each other. We also share information about different events or fundraisers,” says Johansson. While texting, she reminded her former Marvel Cinematic Universe colleagues, “We have a lot of influential people in this thread and it would be great to join forces… to hopefully create a viral moment for Kamala.”

The result of this call to action is a new “Get Out the Vote” video released exclusively at Vanity Fair, with Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, Danai Gurira, And Paul Bettany. “I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many immediate responses from these people,” she says VF. “Usually people flood in, but the group was immediately super excited.”

It was a monumental challenge balancing the schedules of some of Hollywood's biggest stars. “Everyone is so busy and incredibly scattered,” she says. “Chris is making a film in Bulgaria. Robert is currently on stage on Broadway. Mark is making a film. Danai advertises in Atlanta. I was in the Grand Canyon. Don is, I don’t know, probably on a golf course somewhere,” she jokes. “But we were able to get everyone on Zoom at the same time, which was crazy and hilarious.”

Although Shazam'S Zachary Levi While Trump's closest comrades recently called themselves the “Avengers,” the actual squad supports Harris. In the video, they attempt to come up with a powerful slogan for the current vice president by taking moments from their respective films – including Iron Man And Black panther. “It immediately turned into people trying to outdo each other with one-liners,” says Johansson. “Robert and Mark, they argue like two old ladies. And of course I'm the person who just tries to organize everyone. It's very similar to our dynamic in the films. It was wonderful to feel like everyone could rally around him and hopefully it will involve our fans in the voting process.”
