James Carville makes a bold 2024 election prediction

The polls may show a dead heat, but one man says he's “confident” about the outcome of the 2024 election: Kamala Harris will win, predicts James Carville, the longtime Democratic strategist.

In a comment for The New York Timesmakes a bold prediction. “Today I pull up my chair to the political poker table to throw my chips all in: America, everything is going to be okay. Ms. Harris will be elected as the next President of the United States,” he writes.

Carville lays out three reasons why he believes this.

One,”[Donald] “Trump is a repeat election loser,” he says, and his presidency has set the Republican Party on a similar course; In contrast, Harris has managed to generate comparable enthusiasm in just three months of campaigning.

Second, Harris has far outperformed Trump, even with the $75 million donation he just received from his billionaire pal.

Third, Carville simply feels Harris will win, in part because she has the ability to bridge the aisle that her opponent lacks.

“If the Cheneys and AOC understand that the Constitution and our democracy are on the ballot, then every real conservative and every real progressive should get it too.”

“Should” is different than “will,” of course, but Carville got the 2020 race right, highlighting Joe Biden’s age as an issue long before his party prevailed.

On the other hand, he explained earlier this year that Democrats are doing poorly in the polls because they have “too many preachy women” talking, so he's not right about everything.

Carville writes in the Times that a vote against Trump is a chance to stop the rise of MAGA politics in the US

“Over the past decade, Mr. Trump has infected American life with a vicious political disease that would have wiped out many other global democracies. On January 6, 2021, our democracy itself almost collapsed,” he writes. “But Mr. Trump has made it clear that this will be the last time he runs for president. That's exactly why we should be excited about what comes next: Mr. Trump is a loser; he will lose again. And it's very likely there won't be anyone else who can carry the MAGA mantle in his wake – certainly not his vice president.”

“In two weeks, we not only have a chance to elect Kamala Harris president, but we also have a chance to end Donald Trump’s sordid career and push MAGA into a prolonged remission,” Carville said.
