Google's AI-powered weather app is rolling out to older Pixels

Google's Pixel 9 launched with a cool new standalone weather app that can use AI to summarize outside conditions. As reported by 9to5Googlethe company is rolling it out on older Pixels running Android 15 with all the latest updates installed, including one of ours here at The edge.

The standalone Google Weather app pulls saved locations from the built-in weather service already on Pixels to let you track the weather in multiple locations, arrange blocks of weather data, track the weather on a map, and get a summary so you don't need to find out if an umbrella is needed for the day.

Some features of Google Weather are reminiscent of the discontinued Dark Sky app.

At the time of writing, the app currently has a rating of 2.3 stars, with a few complaints listed including that you can't check the weather in randomly selected cities without first adding them to your list of saved places. Google Weather is a welcome new option for those who haven't found a favorite weather app since Apple acquired and shut down Dark Sky in 2020.
