Teenager is accused of killing two people and wounding six others in shootings in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (Gray News) – A 17-year-old was taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting in Florida early Friday morning.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said the first shots were fired after 1 a.m., when people were still gathering downtown for Halloween celebrations.

Smith said two people were killed and six others were injured in the shooting.

The six surviving victims were taken to an Orlando-area hospital.

The teenager, who the police chief said had previously been arrested for grand theft in 2023, was quickly taken into custody after police observed him firing a gun.

Smith said the investigation was ongoing and did not immediately provide a possible motive for the shooting.
