Fatal crash closes southbound Central Expressway in Richardson – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A fatal multi-car crash blocked southbound US 75 Central Expressway in Richardson Friday morning.

Police were still on scene early Friday morning investigating the cause of the serious crash near the President George Bush Turnpike.

The report of a multi-vehicle collision came in just after 1 a.m. When police arrived in the 3400 block of Central Expressway, they found several heavily damaged vehicles.

NBC 5 crews on scene saw several heavily damaged vehicles and debris strewn across the roadway.

Many people were injured and transported to local hospitals, and police said more than one person died.

All southbound lanes of Central Expressway are closed at Plano Parkway, causing long backups as police divert traffic from US 75. Traffic on Bush Turnpike is also affected.

Richardson police are the lead investigating agency, but Plano police are assisting.

Police told NBC 5 the highway will remain closed for several hours.
