Harris criticized for 'word salad' after hecklers during campaign speech: 'The gibberish never stops'

Vice President Kamala Harris was mocked online by the Trump campaign and other conservatives for a “word salad” after a heckler interrupted her speech in Nevada on Thursday night.

“You know what?” the vice president said in Reno, Nevada, after screams were heard from the audience during her speech. “Let me say something about that.”

“We are here because we are fighting for democracy. We are fighting for a democracy. And understand the difference here, understand the difference here, go forward, go forward, understand the difference here.”

“What we are seeing is a difference in this election. “Let’s move on and see where we stand because, for example, on the issue of freedom of choice,” Harris continued as the heckling continued.

“That’s OK,” Harris said as her supporters’ voices drowned out the hecklers. “That's fine. That’s fine.”

You know what? Democracy can be complicated, but sometimes it's okay. We fight to ensure that people are heard and not imprisoned for expressing their opinions. We know what's at stake.

Harris quickly drew criticism from conservative critics on social media.

Nevada, I’m asking for your vote here,” Harris told the crowd. “I ask for your vote.” And here is my promise to you, and I stand with you: As President, I promise you to seek common ground and common-sense solutions to the challenges you face. It’s not about scoring political points for me.”

“I want to make progress. And I promise to listen to experts, to listen to those who are influenced by my decisions, and to listen to people who disagree with me. Because that’s exactly what real leaders do.”
