4 people shot dead in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Several people were injured in a shooting in New Haven early Friday morning.

Four people were taken to the hospital after gunfire broke out at the intersection of Church and Center streets around 3 a.m., according to New Haven police.

A Yale alert was sent out around 4:15 a.m

According to police, a 19-year-old woman was seriously injured, but her condition is stable.

Three men were also shot. The injuries to the 19-year-old, 21-year-old and 22-year-old victims were not considered life-threatening.

The extensive police investigation lasted until the early hours of the morning.

Counterfeit hundred-dollar bills were scattered on the street, as were shoes and evidence markers.

People who live in the area said they heard it.

“This is downtown, a very busy area, and 4 a.m. is actually not that early because I know some people are already starting to commute to work,” said Vivian Gu, who works near the crime scene .

“[It’s] a little concerning,” said Roland Jones, who lives near the crime scene. “I work very close to this scene. Plus, of course, I have kids in the area, so I don’t want to see that when I wake up.”

Both Yale Police and New Haven Police responded to the scene.

“Obviously it's a really troubling situation, especially when a young person is in critical condition,” New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said. “Someone who has their whole life ahead of them.”

Pedestrians were asked to avoid the area.

Road closures were in place and commuters were advised to seek alternative routes.
