According to police, speeding was a cause of the fatal motorcycle accident

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A 20-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Western Avenue Thursday evening, according to Knoxville police.

Scott Erland, KPD spokesman, said in a news release that officers responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. and found a motorcycle had crashed into a pickup truck that was turning onto Western Avenue from Sullivan Road.

Erland said the motorcyclist was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in critical condition but died a short time later. He was not identified.

The motorcycle is believed to have been traveling at “extremely high speeds” when it hit the pickup truck, Erland said.

KPD accident reconstruction personnel continue to investigate.

Erland reported that this incident is the fourth fatal motorcycle accident in Knoxville since October 22nd. KPD reminds all drivers to slow down, pay attention, pay attention to traffic lights and signals, and buckle up.
