New laws on juvenile crime come into force today.

Today, November 1st, new juvenile crime laws come into force.

Maryland residents between the ages of 10 and 12 can face legal consequences for firearms offenses and aggravated animal cruelty.

If electronically monitored children violate the conditions of detention, the youth welfare office must notify its lawyer and the local prosecutor's office.

And children under 13 are automatically subject to the Children in Need of Care petition if they are accused of car theft.

Such petitions refer children to juvenile courts for counseling, treatment, or rehabilitation based on their behavior.

While some say the new laws are a step in the right direction, Jeremy Eldridge, partner at law firm Eldridge Crandell, joined us on FOX45 News this morning to say they may not be enough to combat the rise in juvenile crime.
