Once again, Netflix is milking the “Stranger Things” golden goose for more merchandise before the fifth season finally arrives

We've all heard the story of the golden goose, in which a seemingly mundane item becomes a source of wealth and prosperity. Well, Netflix has definitely found its newest golden goose in the form of Stranger Things and they'll be making just as much money out of the brand before season five arrives next year and the series finally comes to an end. The streamer is launching a massive marketing push that includes new Stranger Things products from Pandora, Peloton and Squishmallows.

If it feels like we've been talking about Stranger Things product tie-ins lately, that's because we have. Just two months ago, Bath & Body Works was selling us fragrances based on the unknown aromas of the Upside Down and a Demogorgon. Now Netflix is creating a Peloton Lanebreak level based on Stranger Things (presumably titled “Running Up That Hill?”), a new selection of Squishmallows versions of characters from the series, and Pandora charms to add to your wrist can. This is in addition to the just released Polly Pocket playset and scented candle collection mentioned above.

Hey, we get it; Netflix sees the end of “Stranger Things” as the death of the golden goose that gave the streamer a mountain of merchandise. When the final season airs in 2025, they may be deprived of a significant source of income, so they will have to do their best until then. While this could potentially dilute the brand and make Stranger Things season 5 feel like a wet noodle, it ensures that the show remains in the public's consciousness in the months leading up to the final episode. A bit like a marketing campaign that pays off in the end – at least until we are so overwhelmed by the merch that we completely forget about the golden goose.
