Adam Schefter uses illegal streaming for “Thursday Night Football”

When the NFL first made the decision to bet Thursday Night Football Behind a paywall, one of the league's most obvious problems was that viewers might be using illegal streaming websites to access the games. However, one could not imagine that Adam Schefter would be one of those who would turn to piracy.

But when ESPN's top NFL insider took to social media to share a viral play from the New York Jets' win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, many noticed that the clip didn't come from Amazon's feed of the game. Rather, the white font in the upper left corner indicated that the footage came from MethStreams.com – a popular pirate streaming site often used to access sporting events.

There are several possible explanations as to why Schefter used an illegal streaming site to share his clip.

Maybe Schefter — or whoever manages his social media accounts — is actually watching Thursday Night Football on Amazon's Prime Video, but uses sites like Meth Streams to post clips of Malachi Corley throwing what appears to be a touchdown just before entering the end zone. Or perhaps Schefter simply reposted the clip from a third-party source and didn't notice (or didn't care) the Meth Streams wordmark in the top left corner.

However, one cannot rule out that Schefter simply does not want to pay the $8.99 monthly fee to gain access to a game that he was apparently able to watch for free.

Regardless of the reasoning, many couldn't help but marvel at the idea of ​​the NFL's top insider using a pirate streaming site to watch a primetime game. As we saw with Tariq Woolen earlier this season, illegal streaming appears to be rampant in the NFL community. And if Schefter's social media post was any indication, so was the league's coverage.
