Des Moines police release raw video of shooting of suspect in September

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police have released videos from a shooting last month that left two officers injured and a suspect dead.

The use of deadly force in the Sept. 16 shooting of Joshua Green was determined to be legally justified by the Iowa Attorney General's Office following an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The AG's report was released on Friday.

Dashcam and body camera video released Monday by the Des Moines Police Department shows the traffic stop leading up to the shooting and the shooting itself. DMPD prepared a summary review of the video, which has been edited for time and content, with the more graphic images omitted can be viewed on the department's YouTube page.

DMPD also released the raw video of the incident to the media. It is graphic in nature and not suitable for all audiences.

Senior police officers Cade Moritz and Jacob Boekoff were shot by Green during the incident. Officer Boekoff was shot in the arm. His injuries were not life-threatening, but the wound required surgery.

Officer Moritz was shot in the head. He was in critical condition and required emergency surgery, followed by several days of hospitalization. He was released to a rehabilitation facility for a short stay.

Both officers are currently recovering at home. You remain in the paid management contract.

The other officers involved in the shooting, Special Officer Frankie Contreras and Capt. Chad Steffen, are also on paid administrative assignment. This is the department's policy following a critical or traumatic on-duty incident.

The department says a shooting review board will be convened into the incident as part of the official administrative review process.
