Man charged with murder in Peoria in 2022 pleads guilty

PEORIA (25News Now) – A man charged in the 2022 Peoria shooting that left one man dead has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

The Peoria County District Attorney's Office said 19-year-old Lamarion K. Wright pleaded guilty Friday.

The 2022 shooting killed 46-year-old Christopher L. Tillman. It happened on September 20, 2022 near what was then the Taft Homes in Peoria.

It was the 18th homicide in Peoria this year.

Around 9 p.m. on Sept. 20, Peoria police were called to the 600 block of Northeast Adams Street and found Tillman had been shot four times – three in the back and once in the right arm.

He later died in hospital.

Surveillance video later obtained by police showed Wright, identified by an officer and a witness, chasing Tillman with a gun in his hand and shooting him.

Wright was 16 at the time of the murder and was automatically charged as an adult because of his age and the nature of the charge.

In exchange for his guilty plea, his sentence was limited to 50 years.

He will be sentenced on December 30th.
