Elderly couple killed in a crash in Tyrrell County this morning

TYRRELL COUNTY, NC (WITN) – An elderly couple died in a crash in Tyrrell County this morning.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on US 64 about a mile west of the Alligator River Bridge

According to the Highway Patrol, 82-year-old driver Francis Ciossari and his 80-year-old wife, Leigh, were killed.

Police say the Lake Lure couple's car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle. The other driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to the accident, the highway was closed for most of the morning.
