A woman faces multiple charges following the death of her child, according to North Charleston police

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A judge has set bail for a woman facing six criminal charges following the death of a young boy in North Charleston.

Tashanta Morris, 33, is charged with six counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, but police say she has not been charged with the death of the child itself.

According to jail records, a judge set bail at $15,000 per charge, for a total of $90,000.

Police responded to a call about an unresponsive child at a fire station early Thursday morning. When officers arrived, they discovered that first responders were attempting to perform life-saving measures on the child.

However, authorities say he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

An incident report said officers and medical personnel noticed “severe bruising to the face and head area, lacerations and injuries consistent with bite marks” on the boy's body.

North Charleston Police spokesman Harve Jacobs said the death remains under investigation by detectives and the Charleston County Coroner's Office.

Morris has since posted bond and been released from the Al Cannon Detention Center.
