The family of murdered tech executive Bob Lee criticizes the statement of the accused murderer's sister

After several days of testimony from Khazar Momeni, the sister of accused murderer Nima Momeni, the ex-wife of murdered tech executive Bob Lee had had enough.

“My husband was murdered. She has no right to make herself a victim in this thing when our family was the one who was murdered. She can leave herself,” Krista Lee told reporters Wednesday during a break in Momeni’s murder trial.

Prosecutors in San Francisco say Momeni stabbed the victim, apparently believing Lee's alleged dealer had given Momeni's sister too many drugs and hit her on the butt.

But Momeni's lawyers say it was Bob Lee who first had the knife and attacked Momeni – and that Momeni then took the knife and stabbed Lee in self-defense.

In recent days, the defendant's sister, Khazar Nomeni, has been on the witness stand, peppering her answers to the prosecutor with “I don't remember” and attributing many of her memory lapses to her heavy drug use at the time of the murder.

Lee's family described her statement as full of lies – but only full of details if it helps her brother.

But what upset Krista Lee on Wednesday was that Khazar Momeni accused her of sending her an “intimidating and threatening” message.

According to prosecutors, Krista Lee called Khazar derogatory names in a text and asked about her whereabouts for a court subpoena. However, prosecutors say the text message was not sent directly from Krista Lee to Khazar. Instead, Krista Lee had sent it to a friend. This friend took a screenshot and Khazar finally saw it.

The victim's brother, Tim Oliver Lee, also criticized Khazar Momeni's statement.

“It was really hard today to see that Khazar has two sides,” he told the court. “On the one hand, she is truly heartbroken over my brother’s death, and on the other hand, she takes every opportunity to assassinate his character. And she takes every situation where we've spoken as a family and expressed our pain – and then tries to use that against us.”

After Krista Lee's remarks to reporters, Judge Alexandra Robert Gordon called jurors one by one and asked them privately whether they witnessed the incident and whether they should ignore it if they did. The judge also called Krista Lee, Tim Oliver Lee and his father Rick Lee separately. Krista Lee was barred from entering the courtroom while Khazar was on the witness stand. But the sister completed her testimony on Wednesday and the jury has since heard from other witnesses.

The trial continues on Thursday.
