Berkshire County man charged with murder in his sister's killing

A Berkshire County man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his sister.

Paul Menard, 65, of Windsor, walked into the Massachusetts State Police station in Cheshire and reported that he shot 62-year-old Monique Menard at her home in Hinsdale, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office said.

According to prosecutors, police responded and found Monique Menard lying face down outside the apartment near her car.

Evidence found at the crime scene corroborated Paul Menard's account. Prosecutors said he shot his sister once from the front, once from behind and once in the back of the head.

Menard told police he used two guns after the first jammed. He waited 20 minutes before driving to the police station to report the suspected murder and did not call 911. He was cooperative with the police.

Menard was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court and is being held without bail.
