MIAMI – A South Florida doctor has been arrested and faces serious drug trafficking charges.

According to authorities, 44-year-old Dairon Manuel Garcia was caught importing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), often referred to as the “date rape drug.”

According to police, Garcia ordered several packages of GBL from France and arranged for them to be delivered to a semi-detached house in Miami that he owns and rents out.

The tenants were reportedly told to hold the packages until he could pick them up. An additional package was allegedly sent to his diagnostics company.

The investigation began when authorities intercepted the suspicious packages at Miami International Airport and traced them to Garcia.

He is now in custody as police continue their investigation.
