Garbage truck collision, car kills two men, seriously injures a third

JOHNSTON – Two young men were killed and a third was critically injured in a crash early Thursday morning on Hartford Avenue, according to Johnston police.

The accident between a garbage truck and a Toyota Corolla occurred around 4:15 a.m. near 2828 Hartford Ave.

The Corolla was traveling east on Hartford Avenue with three occupants when it veered into the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a MEGA Disposal garbage truck, Johnston Police Chief Mark A. Vieira said via email. The waste disposal truck was traveling westbound in the right lane, he said.

The driver of the Corolla, Devonte Parissi, 22, of Central Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Vieira. The rear passenger, Kendell Dublin, 22, of Taunton, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Vieira said.

The passenger, a 22-year-old man from Attleboro, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital Friday and is in critical condition, Vieira said.

The driver of the disposal truck, a 58-year-old man, was not injured, he said.

The Johnston Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the scene. The state medical examiner’s office also responded.
