RICHARDSON- More details are emerging about a deadly crash that shut down most of the North Central Expressway in Richardson during rush hour Friday morning. According to Richardson police, three people were killed and several others were injured.

According to Richardson police, the accident occurred just before midnight near Renner Road on southbound US 75. According to investigators, six family members and friends stood in front of their Cadillac SUV after it stalled in the HOV lane.

According to police, a driver of a Lexus SUV then crashed into the back of the Cadillac, killing one of the six family members, who was 19-year-old Alyia Khalid. The driver of the Lexus was identified as 27-year-old Haley Taylor. According to police, she and her 6-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital and died from their injuries. According to investigators, at least seven vehicles were involved in the chain reaction accident, including an 18-wheeler. According to the police, at least eleven people were slightly or seriously injured.

CBS News Texas spoke with Alyia's brother, who said her entire family came to Dallas from Nashville. He tells us that his younger sister never met a stranger, was funny and was the glue of their family. On her GoFundMe page, the family said she was a beautiful and gentle soul who embodied kindness and compassion, and her goal in life was to help others.

“She was sweet, kind and funny. She planned to become a doctor, but God wanted her to pass,” said Hamzah Khalid, her brother.

Hamzah said they were in town for a relative's wedding. He says they were out at midnight because they were attending an overnight ceremony, which Hamzah said is a traditional Muslim ceremony before a wedding. He says this weekend was supposed to be a celebration weekend, but it turned into a tragedy.

Hamzah also says his other sister is in hospital with serious injuries and is about to undergo surgery on Friday evening. He says there are cousins, friends and other family members who are also recovering from their injuries.

According to police, the highway was reopened at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
