Student among victims in fatal Richardson crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Three people died in a chain reaction accident in Richardson and one of the victims is a 19-year-old student from Nashville, Tennessee, who was in town for a wedding.

Brothers Hamdi and Hamzah Khalid said their sister Aliyah Khalid was killed. They describe her as a fun, loving and charismatic future physician assistant who attended Middle Tennessee State University.

The accident occurred when the SUV she was in stalled in the HOV lane on Highway 75 near Renner Road just before midnight.

The brothers say several friends and relatives were at a coffee shop before the accident.

Before police arrived, several people got out of the SUV before it was hit by a sedan.

“Then they were hit by another car, which ended in death, but at the end of the day we are just grateful that two of my sisters are here today, they are alive and they will get better,” said Hamzah Khalid.

According to police, two people in the sedan that struck the SUV were killed: 27-year-old Haley Taylor and her 6-year-old daughter.

Several others are hospitalized, including another of Khalid's sisters, whose life was reportedly saved by a third sister they call a hero.

“As soon as she saw a car speeding towards her, she tried to get as many people out of the way as possible,” explained Hamdah Khalid.

The brothers say they spent hours calling hospitals when their sisters never returned to their Airbnb.

“We were on a wild hunt,” remembers Hamdi Khalid. “Whenever we heard the news, it was just heartbreaking.”

The siblings and parents say they will return to Tennessee as soon as possible to put Aliyah to rest. They have set up an online fundraiser to help with funeral and medical costs.

Until then, they say they will rely on each other and their faith for all the wrong reasons to make it through an unforgettable journey.

“Seeing her go like that really puts a big hole in our hearts,” Hamdi said.

Seven other people were hospitalized after the accident.
