Mother faces trial accused of killing one-day-old baby

Mother accused of killing baby Moses appears in court for a hearing.

The mother accused of killing her one-day-old baby in Albany 27 years ago was back in court Friday.

Keri Mazzuca is charged with murder in connection with the death of her newborn. She is also charged with concealing a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence. The baby became known as Baby Moses. The child was found in Washington Park in September 1997.

Cameras were not allowed at the proceedings, but NewsChannel 13 spoke with her attorney, Andrew Safranko, afterward.

“Of course, in this case we have to get to the point where we are: what happened or what didn't happen? And now we really need to see the evidence, what evidence was collected and how we got to this point. A lot of evidence was lost,” said Andrew Safranko.

Police were eventually led to Mazzuca using DNA technology and forensic genealogy.
