Isak scored his third league goal of the season in the 12th minute after Newcastle played the ball wide to Anthony Gordon, who then delivered a pinpoint cross from the right, which the 25-year-old Swede headed into the far corner past David Raya.

The Magpies, who beat Arsenal at St James' Park last season by the same scoreline almost a year to the day, did well to keep the visitors off the scoresheet by swarming them every time they approached the penalty area approached. Declan Rice headed a cross just wide in stoppage time, which was Arsenal's best chance of the day.
