Chris Wood has allayed fears that he suffered an injury during Nottingham Forest's win over Leicester City.

The striker scored a brace for the Reds as they beat the Foxes 3-1 at the Premier League's King Power Stadium on Friday evening. After Ryan Yates gave Nuno Espirito Santo's side a 1-0 lead in the first half, New Zealand international Wood struck twice in the second half as the side picked up three points and moved up to fifth in the table.

But when he was substituted in the closing stages of the game, he was seen with an ice pack on his foot and was replaced by Taiwo Awoniyi, sparking fears he may have picked up an injury, which would be a huge blow to Forest.

But their seven-goal top scorer insists the injury is not serious and hopes to feature against West Ham at the City Ground next Saturday.

Speaking to Optus Sport after the final whistle, Wood said: “He was just standing on my foot and that's one of those. “Hopefully it should be OK. It’ll take another week.”

Asked if it was a serious problem, he added: “No, nothing serious.”

Nuno had also hinted at the possibility of injury to his top scorer, saying: “I hope not. Let’s judge, but I hope not.”
