Two SLCPD officers were injured after trying to stop a bar fight

SALT LAKE CITY — Two Salt Lake City Police Department officers were injured Friday while trying to break up a fight.

SLCPD said in a news release that “multiple officers” responded to a call about a fight at a bar at 11:28 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene near 1700 S Main St, a second fight occurred outside the bar shortly after midnight, according to police.

“It is estimated that 30 to 40 people began fighting among themselves and with the officers,” the release said.

According to police, officers attempted to stop the incident with pepper spray.

“Officers and investigators from across the city responded to the incident to resolve the issue safely, quickly and effectively,” the release said. “During the fight, two SLCPD officers were injured. Neither of them had to go to the hospital.”

At this time, police said it was unknown why the two fights occurred.

Police also said up to six people were arrested on various charges. According to the press release, those charges included, but were not limited to, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
