BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) – The Palm Beach County Fire Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office are responding to a gas leak in the area of 19595 South State Road 7, as of 12: Saturday, April 45th Clock. Expect delays in the area and the possibility of evacuations at the mall.

The first call came in around 12:30 p.m. Florida Public Utilities was also notified. Initial reports from the scene indicate that a 2-inch pipe was severed. Incident logs reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com indicate that Boca Raton Fire Rescue and Delray Beach Fire Rescue were also called to the scene. This is not the jurisdiction of the City of Boca Raton or the City of Delray Beach.

The mall is the site of a new Publix under construction – north of Kimberly Boulevard on the west side of US 441. It is unclear whether a crew working on the new Publix cut the line or whether the incident was unrelated to construction has to do. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

There may be traffic congestion on US 441 in the area – but firefighters may be able to limit their response to the parking lot. Stores downtown — or at least near the Publix building — are expected to be evacuated until the leak is sealed. Check back for updates.
