The Woodbury County Community Drug Court is celebrating its 25th anniversary

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A program in Woodbury County is celebrating 25 years of helping people struggling with substance abuse.

Since 1999, the Woodbury County Drug Court Program has helped countless addicts going through the court process.

On Wednesday evening, drug court leaders held a celebration to honor their 25th anniversary of service.

The Drug Court program provides resources and guidance to adults and youth to help them overcome their addiction. Participants participate in the program for 12 to 16 months and are required to attend weekly status hearings about their treatment to ensure they are held accountable.

“I'm a juvenile court judge, so I see a lot of youth who come to Woodbury County Drug Court, and it's really remarkable to see what happens to them, what they've learned from drug court and the impact it has on them.” and her life. And that's why I think it's a phenomenal program. We’re really lucky to have this in our area,” said Stephanie Forker-Parry, District Judge.

The Drug Court program also works with local treatment providers and community resources. Without their help or the support of many volunteers, the program would not be possible.

“Volunteers build that trust with those who come in scared to death, not knowing what is going to happen and knowing that the court could take action that could put them in a jail cell. And nobody wants that. You want to get healthy. They want to live a good life, a clean life, but they have to take the right steps to implement the 12-step program and they will see their lives get better,” said Dan Moore, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Sioux City.
