Released video shows accused teen attacker stalking doctor at Mount Sinai and beating his body – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – Surveillance cameras at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach captured 19-year-old Ventura del Castillo Perez punching his mother's doctor to the ground last Monday.

The video was released Wednesday during a Ventura detention hearing.

Relatives of the teen suspect's doctor and mother spoke in the courtroom and told their side of the story.

According to police, Ventura went to the hospital to see his mother's gynecologist, Dr. Steven Silvers to confront her for allegedly giving her opioids after a procedure in June.

Ventura's mother defended her son in court.

“My son knows my drug trauma,” said Carolina Perez, the mother. “Getting an anesthetic is something very special for me, I can’t do it [starts crying].”

Carolina testified in court and told the judge that she did not know her son would be going to the hospital on the day of the incident.

The video shows how Dr. Silvers is knocked unconscious after Ventura hits his head on the ground after being thrown to the ground.

The doctor's son, Brett Silvers, also took the stand and described his father's injuries.

“My father has two displaced fractures in the left sinus cavity, facial trauma and six facial fractures, a fracture of the cribiform plate at the base of the skull. Three fractures of the right clavicle, fractures of his fourth rib, his fifth rib and his sixth rib. He has a concussion, a facial hematoma and a brain bleed,” Brett said.

Ventura was charged with aggravated assault on a person 65 years of age or older, but he said he was not the perpetrator.

Bodycam video of his arrest was also played in court.

“He grabbed my phone and then grabbed my arm to stop me from leaving and then I grabbed you know what that body lock is,” Ventura said.

“Yeah, okay,” an officer said.

“Then I grabbed the body lock, lifted it and [unintelligible] He hit his head on the lockers,” Ventura said.

Ventura's lawyers said he had no intention of becoming violent and just wanted to talk to the doctor.

After viewing surveillance video, the judge called the attack “savage.”

“I honestly didn’t see the doctor grab him. “It's possible the doctor was trying to stop him from speaking to him further, but it was, according to the statement, a brutal, brutal attack on a 69-year-old man who may have other recurring problems,” 11th Judicial said District Court Judge Alberto Milian.

The doctor was still recovering from his injuries as of Wednesday evening.

The judge did not grant Ventura a temporary release, so he will remain at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
