'Deeply disturbing': Arizona AG investigating Trump over possible death threat from Cheney

Donald Trump has spent years saying just about anything on stage, his more awkward asides tempered by the “sense washing” of the major media.

However, his recent comments about former Congresswoman Liz Cheney threatening to have “nine barrels shot at her” may have broken out of that familiar pattern. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is investigating whether Trump's statements at a rally in Phoenix violated the state's death threat laws.

The Democrat AG said in an interview with local station 12News that Trump's comments were “deeply disturbing.”

“I have already asked my criminal division chief to begin reviewing this statement and analyzing it to determine whether it qualifies as a death threat under Arizona law,” Mayes said.

Trump criticized Cheney's reputation as a “war hawk” during his Thursday call with Sean Hannity.

“The reason she couldn't stand me is because she always wanted to go to war with people. “If she had her way, we would be in 50 different countries,” Trump said. “Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are pointed at their faces.”

That remark was denounced Friday by Vice President Kamala Harris, who said it was another example of extreme rhetoric from the former president and an addition to his growing “enemies list.”

In Arizona, Mayes said Trump's violent speech could only increase tensions in his swing state.

“Something like this upsets people and makes our situation in Arizona and other states more dangerous,” he said.
