Denton County man jailed for murder of woman whose body was found outside her home

A man in Denton County is accused of killing a relative whose body was found under a pile of dirt outside their home, according to police and news reports.

Police arrested 24-year-old Adrian Joe Padilla in connection with the murder of 71-year-old Mary Inez Jacinto. He was booked into the Denton County Jail on charges of murder and tampering with or tampering with evidence with intent to harm a human corpse, online records show.

Padilla remained in the Denton County Jail Saturday. Show online records. It is unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Aubrey police said in a news release that officers were dispatched to a welfare facility at a home in the 11100 block of Canyon Oak Street in the Silverado Community shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.

Officers were told that the homeowner, Jacinto, had not responded to calls and text messages from her family, police said. When officers arrived, they received no response at the front door.

Police said officers then found Padilla, who lived at the home, in the backyard and arrested him. Officers also found Jacinto's body, according to the news release.

Police did not say in the news release how Jacinto is believed to have died or provide any additional information about what evidence may have led to Padilla's arrest.

According to a report from KDFW-TV (Fox 4), officers searched the home and found a shovel filled with fresh dirt and bottles of bleach in a bedroom. Investigators found several large kitchen knives with bloodstains in a sink. According to the report, Jacinto's body was found with stab wounds, wrapped in blankets under a pile of dirt.

According to the report, Padilla and Jacinto were relatives.
