GOP candidate in New Hampshire points out his opponent is a millionaire after accusation

A Republican congressional candidate in New Hampshire criticized her Democratic opponent Thursday night, reminding her that she is a multimillionaire after the Democrat accused her of favoring the rich.

“She believes we should give the richest and largest corporations a break and hope for the best, hope that the results trickle down to hard-working people,” said Democratic congressional candidate Maggie Goodlander, who is married to National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Republican Rep. Lily Tang Williams said during a debate.

“I take a completely different approach. I believe the middle class deserves a tax cut, and I believe we will do a lot for this country by ensuring we do not continue these disastrous tax policies.”

In response, Republican Rep. Lily Tang Williams raised her hand and responded to Goodlander, saying, “You’re rich. They are worth $20 to $30 million. How do you know that normal people are suffering? Are you going shopping? Do you go to Walmart to buy food? I'm talking to these people and you're pretending to be a renter in Nashua to run with millions of dollars from Washington, DC… I got no money to run a TV commercial and you're pretending you're poor, complain that the rent is so high.

“They don’t understand the concerns of ordinary people.”

Goodlander owns an apartment in Nashua, New Hampshire, in the 2nd District and said during the debate that she would own property in the district if elected, the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism reported.

Both candidates are millionaires, but Goodlander appears to be worth far more than Tang Williams.

Tang Williams is worth between $3.8 million and $8.6 million, while Goodlander is worth between $9.9 million and $39 million, with the majority of their assets in a trust fund, WMUR-TV reports, citing financial sources Disclosures.

When Tang Williams came to the United States from China, she only had $100 in her pocket, according to the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism.
