Kansas woman charged with violent attack on police officer

ATCHISON COUNTY – Law enforcement is investigating a suspect on multiple charges following a confrontation with police.

Shortly before 1 p.m. According to Police Chief Mike Wilson, on Oct. 31, officers responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of South 8th Street in Atchison.

Officers located a woman, later identified as 41-year-old Michema Laurent of Atchison, involved in a disturbance. When she was confronted, she threw a cup of liquid in the police officer's face. During the confrontation with officers, she kicked an officer in the face and chest and resisted arrest. When she was arrested, she was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the county jail.

Laurent is being held on charges of assault on a police officer, interference with law enforcement and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
