Lauren Boebert is losing ground in the final days before the election

Rep. Lauren Boebert has lost some ground in her bid to retain Colorado's 4th Congressional District, according to the latest political analysis.

The Republican and ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump won the Centennial State's third congressional district in 2022 by a razor-thin 546 votes. After that victory, Boebert switched to running in the neighboring 4th District, where she is seeking to fill the seat held by Republican Rep. Ken Buck, who retired this year.

The district is the most Republican in the state, according to a Cook Partisan Voting Index from last year that rated it R+13, compared to the 3rd District's R+7 rating. The last time a Democrat won the 4th District was Betsy Markey in 2008.

While poll results from FiveThirtyEight and The Hill suggest that Boebert is the favorite to win and that she enjoys Trump's support, according to the Cook Political Report, her fortunes appear to have fallen in the days before voters go to the polls is.

On Friday, the nonpartisan analysis firm changed the race from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican.” Boebert still has a small lead, although The New Republic reported, “that appears to be largely due to the district's heavily Republican makeup rather than a tactful campaign by Boebert.”

Newsweek has reached out to Boebert's team for comment.

Boebert's Democratic opponent is Trisha Calvarese, a former speechwriter for the National Science Foundation. Calvarese said Boebert “melted down” during a debate between the two in September in which the Republican was challenged over votes against veterans' benefits.

According to OpenSecrets, Calvarese was buoyed by news that it had raised more than half a million dollars in the first half of October. Her Oct. 16 filing showed her total campaign contributions that month increased by $560,000 to $3.74 million.

That's behind Boebert, whose same-day filing showed the Republican had raised $4.48 million.

Boebert made headlines for an incident in September 2023 when she was removed from a screening of the film Beetlejuice Musical in Denver because it was muffled and too loud during the show. In the video, she and the man she was with could be seen caressing each other.

The race in Colorado's 4th District comes as Democrats and Republicans battle for control of the House of Representatives, where the GOP is defending a narrow eight-seat majority.

There were 22 toss-up races statewide Saturday, according to the Cook Political Report. Ten of those seats are held by Democrats and 14 by Republicans.
