Rehab, Olivia Munn, Family Life

Host for the sixth time Saturday Night LiveJohn Mulaney's opening monologue included jokes about his family life, his relationship with actress and wife Olivia Munn, and his stay in a rehab facility in 2020.

The comedian most recently hosted the NBC sketch comedy show in 2022. He also addressed his health, telling a story about the wise words his father gave him during his recovery from substance abuse.

“He was trying to think of something clever and at one point he said, 'Ah yeah, I just wish Grandpa was here.' I said, 'Dad, if Grandpa were here he would be 118 years old and I highly doubt he would have any good advice for dealing with backlash on social media,'” Mulaney said. “Something tells me a dairy farmer from East Troy, Wisconsin, was too old to fight in World War II [chuckling] – That’s what I like about him, he was too old for the oldest thing that ever happened; They needed every guy and my grandpa came and said, 'Uh, we're good.'”

Elsewhere during the monologue the Everyone is in LA The host joked about his health and the possible need for hip replacement surgery, contrasting that fact with his parents' relatively good health.

“I’m 42, I’m not feeling well either,” he began. “My brother called me in April and said, 'Mom fell.' I fell, it hurt. I also bit it in an outdoor restaurant where a few waiters also fanned me menus. I also have a band-aid on my palm. Older people love a band-aid on their palm. They love pulling out the different packs of Band-Aids, shaking them all up, finding the biggest, squarest, rubberiest Band-Aid that looks like it could be used to patch a tire, and slapping it on their hand. They love it down to the smallest detail. How come they hurt their hands like this? What situations are they in? When I was robbed, 'I have a knife,' 'Let me go at him, cut through this translucent, liver-spotted bird bone claw, you son of a bitch.'”

At the start of the set, the multiple Emmy winner poked fun at the fact that she has a five-week-old daughter and a two-year-old son – along with a Chinese and Vietnamese wife and mother-in-law Filipino maid – made sure he was Most of his private life has been spent looking down on people who are smaller than him.
