“The terrible posture slowly destroyed my brain”

Bryan shared on Twitter that he only realized how bad his posture was when he had an MRI scan that found it was slowly destroying his brain. “A ticking time bomb of a problem that I have now dramatically improved with these five habits,” the 47-year-old wrote.

The MRI revealed that Bryan had “genetically narrowed internal neck veins” and his poor posture was “dangerously interrupting the flow of blood” from his brain and back to the heart. The 47-year-old added: “Even with normal neck veins, you can do the same with poor posture.” He also explained the negative effects that poor posture can have on our bodies, such as musculoskeletal pain, circulatory problems , digestive problems, impaired lung function, nerve compression, spinal misalignment, increased stress, fatigue, mood swings, lower motivation and sleep disturbances. And yet we sit slumped in our chairs all day long.

What five changes did he make to improve his posture?

The first change Bryan made to improve his posture was a simple mental exercise that can remind you to maintain an upright posture, and he shared a demo to accomplish the same. Secondly, he urged his followers to avoid doing things that lead to poor posture. In his opinion, the telephone is the worst. “When I hold up my phone, I hold it up. It's awkward and potentially embarrassing to be the person holding up your phone like that. When I tilt my head down 60 degrees, I feel the pressure building up in my brain due to the lack of blood flow,” he added.

Third, Bryan encouraged his followers to exercise every 30 minutes throughout the day. “Take a brisk walk; climb a few stairs; do some stretching exercises; Start dancing. Everything active. Improved circulation and a nice restoration of posture,” he said.

The tech millionaire also practiced two exercises to strengthen his postural muscles. Check them out below.

Finally, Bryan acknowledged that strengthening neglected muscles can lead to initial muscle soreness and reassured his followers that this discomfort is a sign of progress. He said: “Improving my posture was one of the most important things I did as part of my wellness efforts at Blueprint. Posture has profound psychological weight. When you stand tall, you exude confidence and self-acceptance.”

In the end, he said, “Improving your posture doesn’t just benefit you; It creates a ripple effect that encourages the people around you to pay attention to their own posture too.”
