The Louisiana-Monroe offensive line coach's confrontation with the player becomes almost physical

Louisiana-Monroe lost 28-23 to Marshall on Saturday, moving it to 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in Sun Belt play, but Saturday afternoon's loss is just part of the story that emerges from this game.

Warhawks offensive line coach Cameron Blankenship gushed over redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. It was clear from the clip that Hutchinson should not have been in the game with the offensive personnel package as planned, as Blankenship yelled for Hutchinson to leave the field.

Hutchinson sprinted toward the sideline and Blankenship was seen aggressively following him back to the bench before punching him in the face and nearly shoving him. Two Louisiana-Monroe players stood between Blankenship and Hutchinson to separate the coach from the player before a physical altercation broke out.

The Louisiana-Monroe athletic department released a statement following the incident Saturday evening.

“During Saturday’s game at Marshall, assistant coach Cameron Blankenship had physical contact with a ULM student-athlete on the sidelines. This behavior is unacceptable and inconsistent with the way ULM Football does business. Disciplinary action will be taken against the assistant coach. Because this is a personnel matter, the discipline is regulated internally.”
