The pollster explains why the Iowa poll suggests Kamala Harris is leading

A new Iowa voter poll suggests Kamala Harris is in the lead at 47%, ahead of Donald Trump at 44%.

The poll was published by respected pollster Ann Selzer, who regularly conducts polls for the Des Moines Register newspaper, and surveyed 808 likely voters in the state.

Harris' lead, driven by women and independent voters, is still within the margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

“You'll notice that none of the main candidates get to the 50 percent mark, so it's still a little unclear what might actually happen next Tuesday,” Selzer told BBC News.

Trump won Iowa by almost ten points in each of the last two elections.
