The Mukwonago community is mourning the death of a school board member and business owner

MUKWONAGO, Wis. – Vito Schwartz, a Mukwonago school board member and co-owner of Semper Fi Roofing & Exteriors, died Friday evening.

According to a statement from the Mukwonago Area School District, Schwartz served on the school board for four years and is a Marine Corps veteran.

Others who served on the board with Schwartz said he always stood for what was right.

“There were situations where children were not involved and he fought for those children to be included. That's the kind of person he is. He loves people,” said Erika Conner, a former Mukwonago school board member.

“Vito has been a vocal supporter of our district,” added MASD Superintendent Dr. Joe Koch added in a statement. “We will miss him very much. We have a strong community and will overcome the loss of Vito together.”

TMJ4 spoke with Schwartz's family on Saturday, who said they were overwhelmed with grief and added that he was an honorable man who loved his family more than anything.

“It's so hard to communicate your heart because it was so big. If you don't know his heart, you should know how big it is. He’s family when it comes to community,” Conner said.

Schwartz was active in the community as co-owner of Semper Fi Roofing & Exteriors, Marine Corps veteran and father.

TMJ4 reached out to Mukwonago police for more information on Schwartz's death and learned an investigation has been opened. However, authorities have not officially linked Schwartz's death to the information contained in the press release.

According to the news release, officers were dispatched to a home on County Highway E near County Highway EE for a report of two deceased people. When they arrived, they found two 45-year-olds with fatal gunshot wounds from a small-caliber pistol.

The circumstances behind the deaths were not disclosed.

Police say there is no evidence of a break-in at the house and they are not looking for suspects. The investigation is ongoing and police have not released the names of those who died.

This is an ongoing story.
