METHUEN – Two people were killed and two were injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 495 in Methuen on Saturday.

According to Massachusetts State Police, just after 6 a.m., a pickup truck was traveling north when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle. When police arrived, they found the pickup truck had crashed into a tree in the middle of the highway and the other vehicle had fled the scene.

Four people were trapped in the truck and one died at the scene. The three other victims were taken to area hospitals. One of the victims died from his injuries at Lawrence General Hospital and police said the other two currently have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the other driver who may have been involved in the accident.

Speeding cars on I-495

Larry Medolo's office overlooks the area of I-495 where the accident occurred.

“As I was coming over the bridge here to get to work, a whole bunch of cars literally stopped in the street and ran to the side to see what was happening. At this point the helicopter had already crashed. It was sad to see.” “The truck hit the median,” Medolo said.

Residents and businesses in the area say cars are traveling way too fast on the highway.

“They race. I live right next to the apartments and you can hear the cars going by, it’s crazy,” Maglia said.

“It's sad and frustrating and it makes you angry. We need video cameras on the highway to catch these people. Instead of wanting to go there as a police officer. We can always get his license plate and go to his house,” he said.

Police are still investigating the crash, but no arrests have been made so far.
