An accident on lap one results in a red flag

The Malaysian Grand Prix was red flagged following an incident involving multiple motorcycles on the first lap of the race.

Television images showed KTM rider Jack Miller falling off his motorcycle at the entrance to Turn 2 and then briefly getting his head caught in Fabio Quartararo's Yamaha M1.

Miller's teammate Brad Binder was also involved in the scuffle.

Race officials said all three drivers were conscious and the medical team arrived on scene to care for Miller.

Both Binder and Quartararo were able to return to their respective garages, with the latter seen hobbling as he left the track.

Before the end of the first lap, a red flag was shown and all remaining drivers returned to the pit lane.

The restart will begin at 3:20 p.m. local time and the race will now last 19 laps – three fewer than planned.

Francesco Bagnaia will start from pole position on the factory Ducati ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin.

Update: Miller was later seen walking back to the KTM workshop after returning from the medical center. He will not contest the restart.
