The SEC football rankings begin in Week 10

Greetings, BBN!

Last week it wasn't a particularly crazy Saturday, but it was still a momentous one. The two Texas schools paved their way to the SEC title game, with A&M only needing road wins at South Carolina and Auburn to reach 7-0 and the Longhorns only needing to beat Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky to face the Aggies in 6th :1 in Rivalry Week.

In other words, if they win all the way to the final, they could have a chance to meet again a week later in Atlanta. However, Texas could use some help from Georgia. The Bulldogs still have Ole Miss and Tennessee on the schedule, but they still only have one league loss.

Here are the rest of the SEC standings for Week 10:

SEC Rankings Week 10

Notes:

  • Alabama seemed pretty upset about where their season and the perception of the program was at last Saturday. They faced #21 and Missouri 6-1 in front of their home crowd and defeated them 34-0. This is likely the end of Mizzou's CFP campaign.
  • Vanderbilt continues to amaze and teams are starting to get nervous heading into Nashville. The Commodores went head-to-head with Texas and gave them all they could handle with a 27-24 loss that gave them even more validity, even if it was still a loss.
  • Arkansas started the season with a coach on the hot seat, but after a blowout road win against Mississippi State, their only comeback is a buy-game win against Louisiana Tech on November 23rd. Chances of a seventh win are also on the agenda.
  • Oklahoma needs another SEC win to reach a bowl in its first SEC season. Their best chance should be in Missouri in two weeks.
  • Vanderbilt may be enjoying a lot of spotlight and attention right now, but they're not sure yet. They face Auburn on the road this Saturday and South Carolina the following week, which should be winnable, but if they lose both, LSU and Tennessee could drop the entire show to 5-7.
