WATCH: Franco Colapinto finds the barriers and shows red flags during rainy qualifying in Sao Paulo

F1 newcomer Franco Colapinto spun into the barriers during a demanding, wet qualifying session on Sunday morning for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, triggering red flags that temporarily halted the first quarter.

With qualifying delayed until Sunday morning after heavy rain hit Interlagos on Saturday, the Williams driver slipped slightly in Turn 2, sending him wide on the damp track – before briefly spinning in the following corner and to the side slammed into the barriers.

The medical car was deployed, but Colapinto radioed that he was fine after the incident – while before his accident there had already been several yellow flags due to drivers going off the track in difficult conditions.

When the red flag waved with 8 minutes and 50 seconds left, the Argentine was 9th on the timesheets, his teammate Alex Albon in the relegation zone, although Colapinto eventually fell to 18th in the standings.
